Cardboard Future was founded in 2008 by a small group of entrepreneurs with wide experience in the design and supply of furniture to the retail and commercial markets.
Our Managing Director, Rod Fountain is an entrepreneur and former business
journalist. He has launched or run 14 businesses in a 25-year career to date and is
currently co-authoring a book on creativity and business with Professor Peter Childs
In 2005 he brought his business skills to the furniture industry as Commercial Director for Roundhere a regional dealer for a number of leading European manufacturers. He secured contracts with blue chip clients like Hampshire County Council, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and Rentokil-Initial before leaving to pursue other creative projects.
Our Creative & Marketing Director, Mary Dorrington Ward trained as an interior designer. She studied art and design at London College of Furniture and Brighton art college and spent seven years as a professional commercial artist before setting up her own interior design business. Her career has included working with and for some of Europe's top furniture brands, including Vitra in London where she was a product manager. In 2003 she founded Roundhere, the company grew steadily over five years when the business was sold to the Hambledon Group of Winchester in March 2008.
Our head of engineering, Pat Doyle started his cardboard engineering apprenticeship in 1961. Nowadays, there is no such thing as an apprenticeship in cardboard engineering. Pat has spent his entire career engineering cardboard products for major corporations, including 16 years running his own company.
Our financial director, John Stevens combines running his own highly respected practice in the City of London with a stream of other interests including his own caravan park, a centre for disabled children, and a social club for young Asians. John is a former tax inspector and reserve team goalkeeper for Arsenal. We tap into all aspects of his financial acumen and entrepreneurial flair.
